The Diamond Field's Voisey's Bay nickel discovery in Labrador a decade ago ranks among the richest in Canadian history.  Inco Ltd. is now developing the mine.

Cypress Development has an 11.4% interest in the South Voisey Bay Nickel Company (SVBN), which has a major land position 90 kilometers south of the Voisey's Bay nickel discovery in Labrador, Canada.  The Company is the second largest shareholder in the SVBN after Donner Minerals Ltd., which holds 76.5%.

The project area aggregates some 600 square miles and encompasses most of the mafic intrusive rocks exposed at the southern margin of the Nain Plutonic Suite, a highly prospective host for nickel-copper-cobalt mineralization.

SVBN's exploration targets have been magmatic-style, nickel-copper-cobalt mineralization similar to that discovered at Voisey's Bay where the sulphide mineralization is hosted by a troctolitic intrusion, an early member of the Nain Plutonic Suite.  Outside the main Voisey's Bay area, the best example of nickel-copper-cobalt mineralization hosted by mafic plutonic rocks is the Pants Lake intrusion, which occurs in the South Voisey's Bay area.

Magmatic sulphide mineralization is widespread at the base of these intrusions and the potential of the Pants Lake area remains largely untested.  In fact, the surface area of the intrusion is about 100 times larger than the Voisey's Bay intrusion - and large areas of its prospective basal contact lie within a few hundred metres of surface.

Virtually all of the gabbroic rocks in the South Voisey's Bay area have been depleted in nickel and copper by interaction with sulphide liquids - and the amount of "missing" metal is far larger than can be explained by the mineralization located to date.  Contrasting to this, most of the troctolite rocks at Voisey's Bay appear to be mildly depleted or essentially "undepleted."  That being the case, there is a strong probability that a major nickel copper deposit or deposit(s) exists in the South Voisey's Bay region.
